Abstract

This work intends to expand the knowledge about qualified migration, which is a type of migratory phenomenon. The main objective is to analyze the insertion in the Canadian labor market of qualified Brazilian emigrants. The literature shows us that countries usually place several barriers in the way of qualified immigrants who seek to occupy positions compatible with their qualification. The hypothesis of this work is that qualified Brazilian emigrants find it difficult in Canada to get jobs compatible with their qualifications; however, the better Canadian quality of life compensates for the professional challenges they need to overcome. Interviews were conducted with 15 qualified Brazilians who live and work in Canada, in order to raise basic profile data, such as gender, age, academic background, their professional experiences in Brazil and Canada, the motivations and procedures used for emigration. The analysis of the data obtained in the interviews confirmed the raised hypothesis, that is, that qualified Brazilian emigrants in Canada find it difficult to get a job compatible with their qualification, however, the advantages of living in the country outweigh the difficulties encountered in the work.
