Abstract

The present work aims to present how the coronavirus pandemic, despite the social distancing of individuals and families, also promoted processes of social reconstruction of memory. As a case study, we observe from the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020, how a couple of northern migrants who arrived in São Paulo about 60 years ago mobilized their memories as a tool for identity construction and coexistence in the isolation period. In narrating these memories, they report the creation of a network of migrants who were and are part of several moments of their life trajectory. The method used was constituted from memory and oral history, besides remote conversations in digital format implied by the pandemic. Finally, we can analyze how the experience of the pandemic among northern migrants allows us to understand the production of meanings mobilized by social memory in distinct times and in present events.
