Abstract

Through the observation of a theatrical production (Hoje não saio daqui), this paper seeks to investigate the relationships between Brazilian slum dwellers and Angolan immigrants in the Maré neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Some questions raised by the play are confronted with ethnographic data collected in the field, in order to propose a reflection on the relations between Angola and Brazil, two Portuguese-speaking countries linked by the South Atlantic.
