Abstract

This article presents some considerati ons on the ethnic gypsy category highlighti ng that those identified by it have considerable cultural and sociological diff erences among each other. Based on an ethnographic research that includes families that classify themselves as calon, horarano, kalderash (among other forms of auto designation) and political leaderships, this articule shows the connecti ons between state classifications, transnationals practices and subject whose process of identity constructions is related to general gypsy identi ty.
