The French cultural presence in Brazil develops during the XIXth century and extends, as dominating foreign culture in the consciousness of the Brazilian elite, until the years of 1960, when is supplanted by the strong North American cultural presence and before that for the Brazilian nationalism. Till the beginning of the XXth century, its influence on the Brazilian elite took place in a spontaneous way, as consequence of capitalism's dynamics. However, since twenties, it occurs, mainly due the French State's international cultural policy.
