Abstract

This study presents the contributions that CEM - Center for Migration Studies provides to researchers on migration. The CEM is part of the Missão Paz belonging to the Scalabrinian Congregation, a Catholic Institution founded by Bishop João Batista Scalabrini in Italy in 1887. Created in 1969, the CEM maintains specialized library on migration issues a library specialized in the subject of migrations and since 1988 publishes the Travessia - magazine of the migrant . In spite of the transformations it has undergone during its almost 50 years, the CEM provides a specific service for students, teachers, researchers and social agents, with valuable information on migratory studies and the training of agents who work directly with migrants. To collect data, we applied a questionnaire open to 57 of the 74 researchers who visited CEM in 2017; we performed participant observation, semi-structured interviews with director, former director of CEM and a former editor of magazine Travessia. We used the “content analysis” methodology proposed by Bardin (2010) for information analysis. The main results draw a profile of the visiting researchers and indicate the relevance of CEM to the research on migration.
