The internal and international migration motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity are ancient and still very common nowadays, but the theoretical reflection about this type of migration started just in 2000’s. The purpose of this text is to show that gender identity and sexual orientation are important analytical categories for the studies of human mobility. Firstly, we will discuss the internal migrations – human migration within one geopolitical entity – motivated by sexual orientation. After, we will discuss the international migration of non-heterosexual people. Lastly, a special attention will be given for one specific type of international migration: the refugee status claim based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
