Abstract

A home for those who have no home is the title given by the commentary of the Pastoral Edition of the Bible, Paulus, to Pedro’s first letter (1Pd). According to him, the letter was written “to those who live dispersed as foreigners in Ponto, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bitínia” (BÍBLIA, 1Pd, 1,1). Let us ask, at the outset, who is the author of the letter, when was it written and who are its recipients? The letter was written around the year 100 of our era, and addressed to the “foreigners” who lived in the communities of Asia Minor, with the purpose of preparing them for a period of great trials and persecution. The characteristics described in the letter largely coincide with the concrete situation of migrants today: the loss of roots and references, the struggle for survival and better living conditions, insecurity far from the land itself and from the motherland. , the problems faced on a daily basis, the prejudice and discrimination of which they are easy targets. As a result, we chose Pedro’s first letter for study. This letter provides us with a reading key to understand the current reality of migration and also points us to some clues for pastoral action.
