Abstract

This article addresses the trafficking of women from the Amazon to Suriname, based on a trinational research on trafficking of women from Brazil and the Dominican Republic to Suriname, conducted between 2007 and 2008 under the coordination of the NGO SODIREITOS. The study surveyed 15 Brazilian women and 8 Dominican women who experienced the situation of trafficking in clubs in Suriname. This paper discusses the situations of violations experienced by these women before and during the trafficking situation. One conclusion of the study is the perception of the relationship between the situation of women and the context of gender relations in the Amazon, as well as results of development policies implemented in the region.
